STRYMON FLINT TREMOLO & REVERB Strymon
The Strymon Flint Tremolo & Reverb is a highly popular effects pedal known for delivering vintage-inspired tremolo and reverb effects. It essentially combines two classic amplifier-style effects into one pedal with dedicated footswitches for each side.
It features three distinct types of tremolo and three distinct types of reverb, modeled after classic circuits.
Tremolo Types
The tremolo section includes a three-way toggle switch to select between:
'61 Harmonic Tremolo: A sonically complex tremolo that achieves its sound through a dual-band filter that alternately emphasizes low and high frequencies, often described as a subtle phase or univibe-like wobble. Based on early Brown Panel/Tweed-era amps.
'63 Power Tube Tremolo: A swampy, throbby tremolo that simulates the power tube bias tremolo found in certain vintage amps (like the Fender Brownface amps), which creates the tremolo effect by fluctuating the bias of the power tubes.
'65 Photocell Tremolo: A sharp, balanced, and sometimes "hard" sounding tremolo. This is a recreation of the photo-tremolo circuits (using a light-dependent resistor or LDR) found in many mid-1960s American amps (like the Fender Blackface amps).
The tremolo side has Intensity (depth) and Speed controls.
Reverb Types
The reverb section offers three classic algorithms:
'60s Spring Tank Reverb: A faithful recreation of the full-size two-spring tank reverb found in vintage combo amplifiers, known for its "drip" and complexity.
'70s Electronic Plate Reverb: This model is based on early electronic/solid-state plate-style reverbs, providing a rich, smooth, and quickly dense reverb.
'80s Studio Rack Hall Reverb: A nostalgic nod to the digital microprocessor rack reverbs of the late 1980s, offering a distinctive sound with clear early reflections and a slowly building, warm decay.
The reverb side has Decay (time), Color (tone), and Mix (wet/dry blend) controls.
Other Key Features (Especially in V2)
The current version (V2) includes modern features while retaining the core sounds:
Stereo I/O: Features full stereo input (via TRS) and stereo output (via independent TS jacks).
MIDI Control: Full MIDI implementation via a TRS EXP/MIDI jack and USB-C for control, synchronization, and up to 300 preset locations.
JFET Input: A premium analog JFET input circuit for high-quality audio and responsiveness.
True/Buffered Bypass: Selectable true bypass (relay) or high-quality buffered bypass (with reverb trails).
Boost/Cut: Secondary functions allow for a boost or cut for both the tremolo and reverb effects.
Effect Order: A secondary function allows you to switch the signal order between Reverb / Tremolo (default, like vintage amps) or Tremolo / Reverb.
